The Story Behind The Smoke
For over a century, the name Nacogdoches Cigar Company has been synonymous with craftsmanship, community, and tradition. Originally founded in 1905 by Louis DeMouche—a famed Belgian cigar maker—and his partners Dr. J.E. Mayfield and Wilton Ratcliff, the company once produced 50,000 high-grade cigars every month, using locally grown tobacco from the Redfield area.
Their brands, such as Senate Chamber and Old Stone Fort, became part of East Texas' rich cigar heritage, with factory operations fueled by the steady rhythm of the East & West Texas Railroad. Today, that tradition is rekindled.

For twenty years, a dedicated group of Nacogdoches businessmen—known as the La Havana Cigar Group—gathered weekly to enjoy a fine cigar and good company. Inspired by those gatherings and the legacy of the past, the Nacogdoches Cigar Company has been rekindled on the historic brick streets of Texas' oldest town. Our mission is simple: to bring back the golden era of cigar shops with the best service, selection, and community anyone can ask for.

The values of the past are alive here—not just in the cigars we offer, but in the camaraderie we cultivate. We invite you to be a part of this legacy, to experience the tradition, and to explore the history that shaped it. Read more about the fascinating cigar industry of Nacogdoches in Memoirs from La Havana.
